It has been nearly
22 long years since my
granddaughter was
murdered in the small
town of East
Millinocket. Parts of us
(her family) died with
her, but our love for
her can never die.
Aug. 8 will be the 22nd
anniversary of her
brutal death. I haven't
written a letter for a
long time. I feel,
however, that perhaps
now, with all the modern
techniques that we have,
just maybe someone in
law enforcement
(investigators) will be
able to piece things
together. Perhaps they
can start at the
beginning and check the
suspects again. Only a
hair, a spot of blood,
no matter how old, will
turn things around;
someone who won't be
afraid of stepping on
toes.
Joyce McLain was 16
years old - a beautiful,
loving, caring, happy
girl. Her life ended in
such a brutal way.
Detectives tell us she
was bludgeoned to death,
not a happy picture for
her family.
Where are her killers or
killer? Not very far
away perhaps. I also
believe they were in
their right minds. It
was the circumstances
that caused them to
murder her, not the
so-called drugs or
alcohol. She knew him,
she would talk, wouldn't
she? We have to finish
the job.
One thing bothers me.
When we find Joyce's
killer(s), the anguish
their parents will have
to endure will be the
same as we have endured
for 22 years. They will
lose a son as we lost
Joyce and I will truly
understand. My heart
will be with them.
Time does not heal some
wounds. They keep coming
back again and again.
Some sores never heal
and the scar of having a
family member murdered
never goes away
completely and never
heals.
I
am praying that I will
be able to forgive as
Jesus does. "By his
grace I believe that I
can."
